El Puerto de Santa María is a picturesque and lively Spanish city situated on the Costa de la Luz, 20 minutes across the bay from Cádiz.

It is located around the mouth of the river Guadalete. There are 22 km. of Atlantic coastline around the city, with 15 Km of beaches of fine golden sand. This coastline is known as Costa de la Luz because of the unusually clear and intense quality of the light, 3100 hours per year.

EL Puerto de Santa Maria is famous in Spain for its beaches, its gastronomy, its history and culture. This area is also famous for its Flamenco and Sevillana dancing which is taken from the rhythms of gypsy music.

The city is an important fishing port with a number of historic buildings including the Castle where Christopher Columbus stayed while planning his famous voyage to discover the New World, a palm lined alameda, a maze of narrow bustling streets, a lively central market and a busy shopping and commercial area.

THE LANGUAGE SCHOOL

Our Spanish language school in El Puerto de Santa María, established in 1986, is located on a quiet side street, in the new centre of the city beside the Bull Ring and is only a 10 minute walk from the well known Historical Centre which its wonderful, vibrant old part of the city where the best bars, restaurants and nightlife is.

The school offers to its students 9 spacious and bright classrooms all with natural sunlight and air conditioning/heating, a charming brightly painted social area for break time, a kitchen and a lobrary with free access to computers with high speed internet/e-mail. Also there are videos, tape recorders, extra material and games in the classes.

Our Spanish courses are accredited by the prestigious Instituto Cervantes and with the CEELE, a main quality certification for Spanish as a foreign language.

Accommodation in shared flat
Students can choose individual or double rooms in shared flats with other students; shared bedrooms can only be booked by students who register together, not individuals.

Family accommodation
All host families are carefully vetted and inspected by the language school before any placement is considered. Accommodation is normally in single rooms with normal facilities – bed, wardrobe, study area, dresser. In a small number of families the study area may not be in the bedroom. No other foreign student of the same nationality will be placed by the school in the same family (unless requested to do so).

Hotel / Apartments
Our Spanish language school offers other types of accommodation such as executive apartments, hotels, private flats, youth hostels, etc.

>> TEACHING METHODS

Our Spanish courses take a functional and communicative approach to language learning. Basically, we want to help you develop your ability to understand and use Spanish in a wide range of practical situations. We integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The staff at the Spanish language school strive to give students all the support they need in order to fully integrate them into the Spanish life and giving them at the same time an excellent tuition. Students receive free of charge a cooking class in the kitchen of the school, a culture class and a cinema evening each week, and before the Spring Fair we also give the students free Sevillana dancing classes so they can participate fully in the festivities.

:: INTENSIVE COURSES

Daily: 4 lessons

General Spanish Course is a program with 20 classes per week. Classes begin at 9:30am and continue until a break at 11:00am. The second session begins at 11.20am and class finishes at 12.50pm. During the lessons you will learn the five different aspects of Spanish: listening, reading, writing, grammar and most importantly ...... speaking.

Daily: 5 lessons / 6 lessons

The basic outline of this program follows the description above for the General Spanish Course, but with 1 or 2 additional classes used to focus on the points of the language most needed by the individual student.

>> LEVELS

At the beginning of the course a written and oral evaluation is made. On the basis of this each student is placed in the group which suits his or her level.

All levels are offered from Beginners to Advanced. Our 6 levels follow the European Framework of Reference for Languages and the guidelines of Instituto Cervantes.

Students completing their courses successfully will be granted the diploma and academic report which certifies the type of course, the number of hours studied and the level of proficiency attained.

:: TAYLOR MADE COURSES

This course is designed for students who require an intensive Spanish programme within a short time period. There is individualised study of grammar, conversation, listening, reading, writing and vocabulary, as well as any area of specific interest to the student (business, Spanish history, art, literature, etc).

>> Course 20+5h or 20+10h
Daily: 5 / 6 lessons

The standard course of 20 lessons per week in small groups, plus an extra 5 or 10 private classes a week. An intensive Spanish language course aimed at students with time restrictions or who want to deepen their knowledge in a particular area.

>> GUARANTEE OF QUALITY

Our Spanish courses in El Puerto de Santa María are accredited by the prestigious Instituto Cervantes and with the CEELE, a main quality certification for Spanish as a foreign language.

Classes are of a maximum of 6-8 students.

Our teachers are professionals with more than 3 years of experience and continue their training by assisting courses on a regular basis focused on our needs in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. All our teachers have University degrees in Spanish Philology and are guided by the head of studies.

The General Business Spanish course is for managers and executives who need to communicate fluently in Spanish. It is also for students of Business and Commerce.

>> Travel and Tourism Spanish
The Travel and Tourism Spanish course is for students of Travel and Tourism as well as experienced professionals in the industry who need to carry out their work in Spanish and would like to learn spanish in Spain in a small town on the south coast, mixing with local Spanish people.
